Work to Impress your Boss - Villa Group Recruiting

You will be more productive in your job when you have a good relationship with your boss(es); even statistics have shown this to be true. Also, if you are satisfied throughout your working day, then you are more likely to be successful; and this is particularly true for jobs that are based upon commission and bonuses as they will motivate you while boosting your self-esteem.

Many workers wish that their boss would take the lead to make their workplace better, but in reality it is up to each and every one of us to change the way we handle situations with our boss(es) to ensure we have a good relationship. The only thing we have the ability to change is ourselves. Work on yourself and see what positive effects it will have on your relationship with your boss.

Here are a few tips that will help you to work to impress your boss:

Show Initiative

One of the best ways to impress your boss is by showing initiative, but you must remember that there is a thin line that must not be crossed, which means you can’t seem to be “taking over” as having too much initiative can make your boss feel undermined. The best advice is to first get your boss involved and on board with the initiative you wish to implement, then take it to the next level. By doing this, you will show your boss that you are not stepping on their toes or their authority yet you are demonstrating that you are dedicated to growth and success. By showing initiative, your boss may begin to notice you more and have you in mind or promotions.

Meet Your Targets

Of course, the one best way to always impress your boss is to do all you can do to meet your targets. You may be thinking that is much easier said than done, but if you are not within target, then you can look for other ways that you can improve your performance at work and doing this will improve the relationship that you have with your boss. If your performance is making your relationship with your boss negative, then show some initiative and ask to attend training sessions or intern with another staff member that has more experience than you do. Asking your boss for advice about how you might improve can also help.

Avoid Victim Mentality

The first step that will improve the relationship that you have with your main boss along with your superiors is always taking responsibility for the way other employees treat you and look at you. Too many times we fall into the same old routine of acting like a victim when we feel like we have been treated unkindly, blaming unreachable targets for our failures, rather than finding ways to grow,

Be Yourself

Working towards having a great relationship with your boss is not about being sycophantic but about being yourself. Make yourself into someone who naturally impresses those around you. You should always be yourself and speak up when you have something to contribute, sharing any ideas that you have. Being just a “yes man or yes woman” will keep you in the lower ranking positions; to be a leader you need to show integrity.

A healthy dose of humility

You should never let your ego get too large and always show humility. Life has a funny way of dealing us with the doses of humility that we need to keep ourselves in balance, so beware of arrogance.
